American actress
Shirley Temple Black was an American actress, singer,
dancer, and diplomat who was Hollywood's number one box-office draw as a child
actress from 1934 to 1938. As an adult, she was named United States
Ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia, and also served as the United
States Chief of Protocol.

Temple started her film career in 1931 at the age of
three. Two years later, she achieved international fame in Bright Eyes, a
feature film specially designed for her talent. She received a Special Teen
Academy Award in February 1935 for her outstanding contribution as a teenage
artist to motion pictures during 1934.

Films such as Curly Top and Heidi
followed year after year from the mid to late 1930s. Temple capitalized on
licensed merchandise that had a healthy image of it; The goods included
dolls, dishes and clothes. Her box-office popularity waned as she
reached adolescence. She appeared in 29 films from ages 3 to 10, but
appeared in only 14 films from ages 14 to 21. Temple retired from film in 1950
at the age of 22.

In 1958, Temple returned to show business with a two-season
television anthology series of fairy tale adaptations. She made
guest appearances on television shows in the early 1960s and
filmed a sitcom pilot that was never released. She sat on the boards of
corporations and organizations including The Walt Disney Company, Del
Monte Foods and the National Wildlife Federation.

Why is it called a Shirley Temple?
The drink was named after iconic child actress Shirley
Temple. Legend has it that when she was out for dinner at a nice restaurant
with her parents and other Hollywood types, who were all enjoying cocktails,
the bartender made her a special non-alcoholic drink so that she too feel
fancy.
Did Shirley Temple have naturally curly hair?
Shirley's hair was naturally not very curly. Before each show, her
mother would put in 56 curlers to create her famous ringlets. Temple's entertainment
career ended before most stars' careers began.
